Places that evoke scientific awe
# Places I’ve been
Starbase, Texas
I visited in October 2022. It’s pretty easy to access; take a flight to Brownsville, Texas, and drive 40 minutes south to Boca Chica Beach. You can look at the Rocket Garden and orbital launch pad (which may or may not have a fully-stacked rocket) from the public road. If you want to look around inside the main facility, you’ll need a SpaceX employee to submit a tour request and show you around. There’s quite a bit to see inside as well, but photos aren’t allowed.
Giant Forest, Sequoia National Park (see also: Types of redwoods)
# Places I want to go
- Mount Humboldt, New Caledonia (to see the Araucaria)
- Very Large Array
- Super-Kamiokande

Creating a list of places to go has given me a surprising amount of pleasure.

I tweak it every few weeks, and it's lots of fun to talk over with friends. https://t.co/GMNjsicfZX pic.twitter.com/rgEVpJ9B92
